I usually do not read crime novels but read The Student after receiving a recommendation. The first pages of the book have you already drawn into the story. There are a lot of subplots and story lines ranging from Hamburg Germany to Miami . These story lines are well thought out and keep you guessing about who actually is guilty and why. The good characters are quite likable and make you want to find out what happens to them in a second novel. Yes I would buy a second novel to see how things continue. I really liked the John Waters character and would enjoy reading more about him to see how he matures as a detective on the Miami Police force. The student ends with the case being solved but there are still some strange events that could be open for book 2. I do not want to give away the plot and story lines, but would suggest picking up your copy of the Student and be pleasantly surprised.Product details

The Student Jerome Water Book 1 eBook Frank Weisener Reviews
A friend told me about the book a couple of days ago, so I bought it. With the short chapters I though it was going to be an easy read. But then I could not stop anymore... Having lived in both Hamburg and Miami I loved it when the author mentioned the names of familiar streets and places. The plot is suspense-packed and well told. Sometimes quite graphic, but it fits the characters. The end was quite unexpected! I definitely recommend this one.
Excellent read which draws you into the story quickly with the grisly details of a murder/abduction, then settles in with the twists and turns of the manhunt. Just as you get comfortable with where things are progressing, the author takes you in another direction, another scenario, which keeps you off-center...which I find compelling. Makes you want to read more. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the very unexpected twist at the very end.
Frank Weisener's first in a series, The Student is a fabulous book .I effortlessly sought the kidnapper and the emotions of the characters. I loved the twist and turns as the story unfolded. The characters depth was well written and I treasure the personal touches. I very much enjoyed reading this book, I am very much looking forward to book 2!
Crime Dramas are not my normal cup of tea for reading, my Gentle Readers. Don't get me wrong, I do love the TV shows, I just normally do not read them. This series might become my first exception. Frank does a great job of weaving flashbacks and character backstory in bite size chunks so that you can understand the depth and motivations of his creations. Each chapter gives you a date and time, as well as the primary players in the scene. This allows you to follow along with the investigation as well as the criminal's activities.
Something is wrong at Miami's prestigious Florida International University. FIU students are turning up dead. It's up to rookie detective Jerome Water to crack this case and bring the perp to justice. He's not alone, however. He has his mentor, aging detective Poole, and former Miami Dade police officer turned private eye, Franco Tamargo. Can these three gumshoes find out who's killing the students of FIU? Grab your copy of "The Student" today to find out.

My impressions double dealing, sick antagonist, good guy/ bad guy mental case, weird,
The main characters
Sabine Sander, the missing student from Germany.
Benjamin Walker, age 23 also from Germany with a weird past.
Professor Robert Martin, at Florida International University.
Sandra Restrepo, victim.
Jerome Water, Miami detective.
Eric Poole, Miami detective.
Franco Tamargo, private investigator, ex-detective.
The cast of characters in The Student is large but interesting. Surprises and conflict are abundant. The plot involves the discovery of several female bodies floating in the bay near Miami. Both were students at FIU. And then German student Sabine Sander goes missing.
There are many flashbacks to cover the complex backstories that explain the history of several characters.
Ex-detective and now private investigator Franco Tamargo is hired by the brother of Sabine Sander to locate her and expose her abductor. Franco’s character is likeable and the primary one I felt an attachment to. Later that feeling transferred to Detective Jerome Water.
The story flips back and forth between characters and backstory and is easy to follow if the reader pays attention.
The ending was a surprise and hinted that Sabine might still be in danger from a nutcase.
The courtroom scene near the end didn’t seem realistic. DNA from semen would have swayed the ending.
The editing is good word wise, but many sentences need restructuring.
Character development is good as it is aided by the backstory insertions.
The writing style is wordy, stiff, repetitious and needs more conjunctions. I grew tired of seeing I am repeatedly when I’m would have been more natural.
The word SOME was overused to the point of being boring some of this, some of that made the sentences ambiguous instead of tight and specific.

Really good read! Loved how the chapters took you back to a memory, a different place in the story, and it flowed perfectly. I couldn't put the book down, lots of suspense. I hope there's another book soon! Highly recommend it.
Starting off on the first page, I did not think this book would be my cup of tea. A little more graphic than what I normally read. However the introduction of characters and their background in each chapter captures your interest and compels you to read more. I love the short chapters which makes it a great book for someone like me who doesn't have long periods of time to sit and read. For a book I did not think I would finish at first, I found myself reading further and longer as I worked the case in my head side by side with Jerome Water and Franco Tamargo . As with Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme or Michael Connely's Harry Bosch, I can't wait for the next Jerome Water's adventure.
I usually do not read crime novels but read The Student after receiving a recommendation. The first pages of the book have you already drawn into the story.
